In anticipation of the meet-up with my friends in Tokyo, I’ve been happily skipping to work with Reddog’s 「逢いたくて」blarring from my headphones. For those of you still learning Japanese, 逢いたくて is read like あいたくて (a.i.ta.ku.te), but I recently learned that the nuance is different from the commonly used 会いたくて(a.i.ta.ku.te), meaning ‘I want to meet’. Apparently, the title of the rock group’s song refers to more of an encounter, and possibly a bad one? My Japanese level prevents me from really understanding what this song could be about in the end, but perhaps it’s more of like a plea from the lead singer to meet his love interest by any means necessary. Even if the encounter is a bad one, he wants to see her. In any case, it’s an easy pop-punk song to jam to.

I wouldn’t say I’m the biggest fan of the young Japanese group, but I bought their album on a whim while I was perusing the artists on display in Tower Records. I was waiting for a concert at the time and had unfortunately decided to bide my time buying more CDs that I didn’t need. Ultimately I walked out of the store with 3 new albums and a towel advertising one of my favorite Japanese bands. One of the albums, of course, had been Reddog’s, a band who I’d listened to only on the sample track provided by Tower Records. I’m known for such impulsive buys, though. Haha!

Anyway, I’m really excited for this trip. I’ll be taking the bus from Nagoya at 8:30! It takes about 5 and a half hours and I’m looking forward to the long trip! I love watching the scenery and contemplating life during long drives. Usually, when I go to Tokyo, I listen to Maximum the Hormone. There’s no particular reason, other than the fact that I bought their album right before I’d traveled to Tokyo for the first time last year. Now their song「ぶっ生き返す！」always reminds me of when I was exploring Asakusa.
