Is this a concert report?? DID SHE GO TO A CONCERT FOR THE FIRST TIME IN LIKE A YEAR AND A HALF???

YES SHE DID. I was on the fence on whether to really go or not, even though I’d gotten the ticket months ago. However, taking into account that I’ve been vaccinated and that COVID cases have dropped, I decided it’d be worth trying to get back into the groove of things. And I’m really glad I did.

One of the reasons I really wanted to go to this particular show was because the venue is hilariously tiny. I was about three rows back from the front and got a clear view of the band. It’d been a long time since I’d been in that kind of atmosphere, so I admit that it was a bit awkward at first. Everyone seemed so young and stylish, yet there I was with my tattered band shirt that I wear on most of my days off. Six Lounge is my favorite band, after all. However, luckily, I was next to someone who shared my energy, and I was quickly reminded of that concert rush after the first chord was played. My whole body shook with the song’s vibrations as I peered up through the blinding stage lights.

The first song was my favorite: 朝焼けプロムナード, or ‘Asayake Promenade. I’ve only been to two shows of theirs, this being the second, so it’s not like I have a lot to compare to. Still, ‘Asayake Promenade’ was the song that brought me into the Six Lounge fandom. Given how old the song is, I’ve only ever heard it on my CD and on concert DVDs, so it was an extremely special moment.

What surprised me about this show was that they played…maybe….one song, “SPEED” from their latest album. Most of the songs were from their earliest albums– not even last year–like…FROM THE FIRST ALBUM: `東雲’. I was extremely happy about that because it’s my favorite album of theirs, but I was also expecting them to be super promoting “3”. Then again, it’s “Morning Glow” tour, so maybe there’s a reason behind that. Perhaps the theme is reflecting on the past as the new day comes in…kind of thing??

Anyway, the show was really interesting. Of course, it was a lot of fun, and they did a great job, but because they seemed to focus on their old albums, I felt a bit taken aback. When we called them on for an encore, I wondered if they’d play “Canary“, or a similarly popular song from “3”, but instead they surprised us with their BRAND NEW song, “Morning Glow”.

I don’t know if it’s just a coincidence, but back in April, the vocalist, Yuumori, was the host on a radio channel. It’s called KING’S PALACE, and a variety of artists have their own segments. It’s really fun, and for the month of April, Yuumori had a chance to flaunt his charisma. In one segment, he introduced a song he loved called “New Morning”, but I can’t remember the artist’s name. He seems to like vintage rock, though, for what it’s worth. It had that sort of airy, psychedelic vibe–or…at least many of the songs he played were like that. At the end of the song, he joked how it was kind of like HIS song, because “New Morning” and “Yuumori” sound similar.

So, thinking about this MORNING GLOW tour, I can’t help but wonder if Yuumori was reinspired by that artist. Will their next album have that same vintage rock feel? Time will only tell~
